About the Firm

Daniel M. Press

Bankruptcy Attorney

Daniel M. Press has devoted much of his legal career to bankruptcy law, representing debtors and creditors in cases ranging from straightforward consumer filings to complex business reorganizations. With more than three decades of experience, he brings a depth of knowledge and a practical, client-focused approach to every matter.

A 1988 magna cum laude graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, he was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. He received his B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University. After graduating from law school, Mr. Press served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Jaime Pieras Jr. in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.

Mr. Press, along with his colleague Brett Weiss, authored the legal book Chapter 11 for Individual Debtors, published by Collier/Lexis-Nexis. He and Mr. Weiss also teach "boot camp" training for lawyers interested in learning the Chapter 11 practice.

Mr. Press has represented clients in Chapter 7, 11, 12, 13 and 15 cases, as well as in adversary proceedings, creditor representation, and out-of-court workouts. He practices in the Bankruptcy and Federal District Courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, as well as other U.S. Appellate, District and Bankruptcy Courts around the country.

He is a member of the Board of the National Consumer Bankruptcy Rights Center, and served for 12 years on the board of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He is currently Chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the Maryland State Bar Association and served as President of the Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Bar Association. He previously served as the Education Director of the Consumer Bankruptcy Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is a regular speaker on bankruptcy and related topics at Continuing Legal Education seminars and programs locally and nationwide.

He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, has been listed as a Super Lawyer for 2012–2026, and was listed in Washington, DC's Best Lawyers by Washingtonian Magazine. He is a recipient of the NACBA Distinguished Service Award (twice) and the Alan J. Belsky Outstanding Service Award from the Consumer Bankruptcy Section of the Maryland State Bar Association.

Mr. Press takes pride in giving clients straightforward, honest advice — even when the answer is not what they hoped to hear. He believes that clients are best served by a clear understanding of their options, the likely outcomes, and the risks involved, so they can make informed decisions about their financial future.

A Practical Approach to Debt Relief

Bankruptcy is a powerful legal tool, but it is not the right solution for every situation. Before recommending any course of action, Mr. Press takes the time to understand each client's complete financial picture — assets, liabilities, income, goals, and concerns.

For individuals, that often means exploring whether Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 is the better fit, or whether an out-of-court resolution might serve them better. For businesses, it means analyzing whether the enterprise can be saved through reorganization or whether an orderly wind-down is the wiser path.

Whatever the situation, clients receive direct access to Mr. Press — not a paralegal or associate — throughout their case.
